This guide shows you how to upgrade or downgrade your hosting plan through the HOSTDOG client area. Whether you need more disk space, additional resources, or want to reduce costs, you can change your plan with minimal disruption.
When to upgrade or downgrade
Consider upgrading when:
- Your website is running slow due to resource limits (CPU, RAM, or disk space)
- You need to host additional websites or domains
- Your email sending limits are not sufficient for your business needs
- You want better uptime SLA guarantees (99.95% on Business plans vs. 99.90% on Personal)
Consider downgrading when:
- Your current plan has more resources than you need
- You want to reduce costs while maintaining essential hosting features
Change your hosting plan
Follow these steps to upgrade or downgrade your plan.
Navigate to the HOSTDOG homepage and click the Log in button in the top right corner of the page.
Click Services → My Services and select the hosting plan you want to change.
On the service details page, click Upgrade/Downgrade in the sidebar. This opens a list of available plans you can switch to.
Review the available plans and their features. Select the plan you want to switch to and click Choose Product. The system calculates the prorated price difference based on your remaining billing period.
Review the price difference and confirm the change. If you are upgrading, an invoice for the prorated amount is generated. Pay the invoice to activate the upgrade immediately.
How billing works for plan changes
| Action | Billing |
|---|---|
| Upgrade | You pay only the prorated difference for the remaining days in your current billing cycle. New invoices reflect the upgraded plan price. |
| Downgrade | A credit is applied to your account for the price difference. Future invoices reflect the lower plan price. |
Frequently asked questions
No. Your files, databases, email accounts, and settings are preserved when you upgrade or downgrade. However, if you downgrade to a plan with lower resource limits and your current usage exceeds those limits, you may need to reduce your usage to fit the new plan.
Yes. You can upgrade from a Personal Shared plan to a Business Shared plan (and vice versa) using the same upgrade/downgrade process. The switch is seamless and your data is preserved.
Upgrades take effect immediately after payment is confirmed. Your hosting account resources (disk space, CPU, RAM) are updated automatically. No downtime or migration is required.
