This article walks you through submitting a cancellation request for any hosting service, explains the difference between immediate and end-of-billing-period cancellations, and covers what happens to your data.

Before you cancel

Before submitting a cancellation request, keep the following in mind:

  • Back up your data — download all files, databases, and emails from your hosting account before cancelling. Once the account is terminated, data cannot be recovered.
  • Check your billing cycle — if you cancel before the end of your current billing period, you can choose whether to keep the service active until the period expires or terminate it immediately.
  • Consider alternatives — if cost is a concern, you might prefer to downgrade to a smaller plan rather than cancel entirely.
  • 30-day guarantee — if you are within your first 30 days of a shared hosting plan, you may be eligible for a full refund under the money-back guarantee.

Submit a cancellation request

Follow these steps to cancel a hosting service through the HOSTDOG client area.

Step 1:
Log in to your client area

Navigate to the HOSTDOG homepage and click the Log in button in the top right corner of the page.

Step 2:
Navigate to your services

Go to ServicesMy Services to see a list of all your active hosting plans and services.

Step 3:
Select the service to cancel

Click on the hosting plan or service you want to cancel. This opens the service details page.

Step 4:
Request cancellation

Click Request Cancellation in the service management sidebar. You will be asked to:

  • Choose a cancellation type:
    • End of billing period — your service remains active until the current billing cycle ends, then it is not renewed
    • Immediate — the service is queued for termination right away
  • Provide a reason — select a reason from the dropdown and optionally add a note. This helps HOSTDOG improve its services.
Step 5:
Confirm the cancellation

Click Request Cancellation to submit. You will receive a confirmation email acknowledging the request. The service status in your client area changes to Pending Cancellation.

Tip: If you change your mind, you can revoke the cancellation request before it is processed by going back to the service page and clicking Revoke Cancellation Request.

What happens after cancellation

  • All files, databases, and email accounts on the hosting plan are permanently deleted once the service is terminated
  • Domain names registered through HOSTDOG are not cancelled — they remain active and under your control until their expiry date
  • If you have a domain pointed to the cancelled hosting, your website will go offline but the domain itself stays registered
  • Any unpaid invoices associated with the cancelled service may still need to be settled
Important: Data deletion is permanent. Make sure you have downloaded all files, databases, and email archives before the cancellation takes effect.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a refund when I cancel?

If you are within the first 30 days of a shared hosting purchase, you are eligible for a full refund under HOSTDOG's 30-day money-back guarantee. After the guarantee period, cancellation stops future billing but does not issue a refund for the remaining time in the current billing cycle.

Your domain registration is separate from your hosting service. Cancelling hosting does not cancel your domain. The domain remains active under your HOSTDOG account until it expires or you transfer it to another registrar.

If the cancellation is still pending (not yet processed), you can revoke it from the service page. Once the service has been fully terminated, you would need to place a new order. Previously stored data cannot be recovered after termination.
