Your email account password is separate from your HOSTDOG account password. You can change it either through your hosting control panel or directly through webmail. Once changed, remember to update the password on every device and application that uses the account.

Method 1: Via the control panel

This is the recommended method, especially if you have forgotten your current password or manage multiple email accounts.

Step 1:
Log in to your control panel

Navigate to the HOSTDOG homepage and click the Log in button in the top right corner. From the client area, go to Services, select your hosting plan, and click Log in to Control Panel.

Step 2:
Open Email Accounts

In your control panel, find the Email section and click Email Accounts. You will see a list of all email accounts on your hosting.

Step 3:
Find the email account and open its settings

Locate the email address in the list. Click the Manage button next to it to open its settings page.

Step 4:
Set a new password

Find the Password field on the account settings page. Enter your new password, or click Generate to create a strong random password automatically. If prompted, re-enter the password in the confirmation field.

Step 5:
Save the change

Click Update Email Settings or Save to apply the new password. The change takes effect immediately.

Method 2: Via webmail

If you know your current password and prefer not to go through the control panel, you can change it directly from webmail.

Step 1:
Log in to webmail

Open your browser and go to https://yourdomain.com:2096 (or https://webmail.yourdomain.com). Enter your full email address and current password to log in.

For detailed instructions, see How to access webmail.

Step 2:
Open password settings

Once logged in, navigate to Settings (or Preferences) and look for the Password option. The exact location may vary depending on the webmail application you use.

Step 3:
Enter your new password and save

Enter your current password, then type and confirm your new password. Click Save to apply the change.

Security tips for a strong password

Tip: A strong email password should meet all of the following criteria:
  • Be at least 12 characters long
  • Include a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters
  • Not be the same password you use for other accounts or services
  • Not contain easily guessable information such as your name, domain, or common words

Consider using a password manager to generate and store strong passwords securely.

Update your email clients

After changing the password, any device or application that connects to this email account will stop working until you update the password there too. Make sure to update it in:

  • Outlook (desktop or web): Go to account settings and update the password under the connection settings for this account.
  • iPhone/iPad: Go to SettingsMailAccounts, tap the account, then tap the account name again and update the password.
  • Android: Open the email app, go to account settings for this address, and update the incoming/outgoing server password.
  • Webmail: Log in at yourdomain.com:2096 using your full email address and the new password.
Important: If you have the email account configured on multiple devices, update the password on every device. Repeated failed login attempts with the old password can temporarily lock your account.

Frequently asked questions

Is my email password the same as my HOSTDOG account password?

No. Your HOSTDOG account password is used to log in to the client area. Each email account has its own separate password that you set when creating it. Changing one does not change the other.

If you remember your current password and just want a quick change, the webmail method (Method 2) is convenient. If you have forgotten your password or need to reset it for someone else, use the control panel method (Method 1) since it does not require the current password.

This usually means the email client on your device still has the old password saved. Update the password in your email client settings on each device you use. If you are not sure how, see our setup guides for Outlook or other clients. If the problem persists, open a support ticket.

There is no strict rule, but it is good practice to change your email password every few months, or immediately if you suspect your account may have been compromised. Always change it after using a public or shared computer to access your email.

Need Help? If you are locked out of your email or the password change is not working, our support team is available 24/7. Navigate to the HOSTDOG homepage and click Log in to open a support ticket, and we will assist you promptly.
